A Wedding in Miami Beach

Beautiful large callas by Infinity Weddings & Events,LLC.

This was one of the nicest weddings we ever did!
Curtis, a firefighter and Heather, a student- decided that there would be no better place to have a very intimate moment in their lives than Miami Beach.

They were very sure of the what they wanted and how! Intimate, only them, barefoot, the view of the water, and between palm trees blowing in the wind.

While they were in their state, we handled the acquiring of the marriage license; so they just came to South Florida and enjoyed their stay. We offer this convenience to all our clients- talk about relieving stress.

I picked them up from their hotel to take them to the very beautiful and breathtaking spots- Pelican Harbor.

When she saw how beautifully the palm trees swayed and Curtis' smile- you can see how happy she was. This is a beautiful couple and it shows.
I love that her wedding dress was so simple and yet elegant at the same time. It flows gently in the breeze; capturing every wind breeze.
Standing on the rocks overlooking the beautiful Biscayne Bay- but you can feel the love between them. Powerful stuff!
We then drove them to the beach- where thankfully, the beach goers were going, and were able to capture some awesome shots. The coloring of the lifeguard house added the right touch of POP- keeping Curtis and Heather the focal point of the picture.

I so loved how she had complete trust- that he would not let his beautiful bride fall. The kiss to a happy beginnings.

FUN FACT: The wedding cake has its origins as a fertility symbol in Roman antiquity when a cake, rather than being eaten, was broken over the bride’s head. The idea developed over the centuries into a series of several cakes placed on top of one another.

How to stay cool in a beach wedding

So up north the weather has dropped a few degrees and South Florida begins to call all of you to come on down and thaw out.

And while our average temperature is 85 degrees Fahrenheit, feeling so much better than the 31 degrees up north- the heat on the beach can still cause some discomfort. So here is a list of ways that we read from our colleagues to help keep your self and your guests cool while they wait for your arrival down the aisle.

  • Just think it's the coldest day of the year, your body will in few minutes accept the solution, hopefully, and you will need an extra jacket!"
  • Bring a change of shirt should the one you are wearing get a bit sweaty.
  • Sprays anti-perspirant on your feet, back and chest. This prevents you from sweating as much as you usually would and helps keep you much drier than normal.  This is for the men!
  • A black shirt, although not good for being out in the sun, helps a great deal in hiding wet spots when sweating.
  • I also bring a small cooler with several re-freezable ice packs and several bottles of water.
This is small enough (size of a lunchbox) that I can carry it around with my camera bag if needed.
  • I have had brides be very appreciative if I have a cold bottle of water ready for them.
  • I also do not wear a jacket unless the venue calls for it, but by then we are inside with air conditioning.
  • Start out from home well hydrated
  • Carry water and drink it! It doesn't have to be cold, you just need the wet to replace what you lose.
  • Pace yourself and don't over-exert.
  • Eat lightly when you eat.
  • Of course a fan- but there are battery operated fan that even allow some cool water to come out
  • Umbrella- instant shade!
  • Freeze fruits before you go and bring them with you- grapes, oranges and apples- of course watermelon!
  • Wear natural fibers- cotton and linen are popular in the tropics for a reason.
  • And if you are feeling too hot- walk and place your feet in the cool water.
Stay cool here is South Florida and enjoy

Questions to ask when selecting your venue

modern chic wedding at the W Hotel Miami photographed by Maloman Photographers
Photography by Maloman Photography- At the W Hotel, Miami Beach- by Infinity Weddings & Events, LLC.

This is a questionnaire and observation list that I offer my clients when shopping for a venue for their wedding reception.
While it encompasses the majority of questions and observations that should help you in selecting the right venue, it does not encompass all. Each venue is different and if you have some suggestions, by all means please add them. But here is the list of ASK and OBSERVE.
ASK- To see the actual room where the reception will be held.
ASK- The time frames of set-up, serving, and take down.
OBSERVE- How to get to the room- stairs, elevator, first floor.
ASK- Their menu selection and pricing.
ASK- Styles of service- Buffet, Stations, White glove service etc.
OBSERVE- Style and positioning of tables, chairs, electrical outlets.
ASK- If the wedding cake is included- if not, is there a cutting fee.
ASK- If the room has to get changed- what are the other options and back up plans?
OBSERVE- The distance from ceremony to reception.
ASK- What do they provide? What is included? Chairs, table (square- round etc.), Linens etc.
ASK- How many servers and bartenders will be available guest.
OBSERVE- How many rooms they have available.
ASK- If their are more rooms- will your reception be the only reception that day?
ASK- Are there any music restrictions?
ASK- Are there any outside vendor restrictions?
OBSERVE- Is there ample parking?
ASK- Are there any decor restrictions? Draping, special lightning allowed, etc.
ASK- About price and payments- taxes and gratuity.
ASK- Are there any other items you need to know about?
Photography by Maloman Photography- Florida-http://www.maloman.com/portfolio.html

Make sure you print this out and that you have a pen handy to write down the response.
Also make sure you go bit by bit- because in this exciting time- you begin to get side track and start to talk about everything else but the venue. It happens, but as a wedding planner I want to make sure we stay on track and have a spectacular wedding- without any unpleasant surprises!

Have a happy and wonderful time planning.

Why should you need a wedding planner?

Photographer by Jeremy Lyn- Wedding by Infinity Weddings & Events, LLC, of South Florida- by the House of Wetherington
So do you think we are useful? When planning your event, whether big or small, do you feel that a wedding planner would be useful in your wedding planning and day?
You don't have to answer that question, as we, as professionals ask that question all the time.

I can understand the mentality of some brides who think that having a wedding planner is a luxury and for some having to scrap the wedding planner if budget is tight. After all, a wedding can be pulled off without a planner, but not a photographer, caterer, baker or officiant. So in the bride's mind, the planner is perceived as more of a luxury than a necessity.

So what do we do- what are the benefits of hiring one? Glad you asked ;0).
Well first let's talk about money- How can we save you or get you what you want without you feeling like you have been taken to the cleaners.
I do find that being a wedding planner, I can go to vendors and see about getting a discount....most vendors do not offer a bride a discount and some don't ask. But if you are working with someone on an ongoing basis, the vendor is more inclined to give a discount to someone they work with on a regular basis. It is basically the laws of supply and demand. We have a vast network of vendors that we work with and know what they offer, how they offer it and their professionalism in getting the task done.

However, the job of a wedding planner is not just to help the day of. A good planner will identify money saving areas, as well as let the bride know when she is paying too much. Recently, I met with a mother of the bride who is considering hiring me. I took one look at her catering contract and noticed that she was being charged twice as much on the rentals than she should have. She was already paid for it. We resolved the issue and that savings alone paid for my services. Or when I have a bride who insisted on giving me a check to bring to a photographer to book him when she never met the man. I told her it is against my policy to book someone that way. I had never worked with the person and she just looked at pictures on the internet. She did end up meeting with the photographer and then had him forward his contract to me. After reviewing the contract and finding so many issues with it and things she had not anticipated she decided not to use the photographer. In the end she thanked me for not allowing her to make that mistake and end up with a bad photographer. Fortunately for her she had a planner and didn't end up stuck with him.  So in reality, brides can actually save more money in the end by hiring a planner versus not hiring one.

Now the "Bridezilla" factor.
I have yet to meet a "Bridezilla"- they just don't exist. Let that be for the cameras and TLC. For me, I can't see why a bride would want to have her wedding day having to deal with any problems that arise....the day is meant to be stress free and to enjoy....planners take your headache and make it theirs....that is my opinion.... Now an unhappy person- that is a whole different matter- but 99% of the brides we have coordinator for, worry. They worry about everything from the dress fitting perfectly, to all guests arriving, if what they have chosen represents them and does everyone see it as fabulous. Ok- maybe not everyone- but there is that or those someone you want to see impressed with your fabulous selections and decisions. When it is all said and done we have our brides and happy and always saying that they are glad that they hired us.

The "I can do it myself"
I agree there is the beginning of a trend in which brides are being told through certain media outlets that they can be a D.I.Y bride. I am not sure where it was ever said that you can not or should not be a part of the planning or even the creative force. I have been known to sit with the bride and my staff and make kits, bags, gifts and much more. People like D.I.Y until they realize just how much work it really is to pull it off! It is definitely a time constraint for major projects and for your wedding, its the one time (hopefully!) that you will have a special event like this. Where you are the princess of your wedding day. I always say, just because you can do it yourself doesn't mean you want to. Besides you can do your own manicure/pedicure but why should want to?
In addition to that, we as wedding planners keep educating the public the valuable services that we provide. I have met some brides who think that the venue will take care of everything. Not knocking the venues at all, but who is going to track down the flowers or the DJ or photographer, when they are a no show? A venue can only do so much and this were we step in.

For me, as a planner, I wouldn't have my own personal event without the services of a professional planner, especially on my wedding day, because although I would probably have input during the planning stages, I would most certainly want to ENJOY my event along with my guests.
As a planner, I know the amount of legwork that goes on during the day of the event, so why would I want to work my own event -- it would certainly take the fun out of it.

"Thank God its over" or "What a wonderful time we had!" which do you prefer to say?
It is really unfortunate that many Brides, Grooms and family members feel the same way AFTER their/the wedding without a planner in their corner. I find that 40 to 50% of a wedding coordinator's job is education about how much stress relief and time saving we actually provide. It is so nice to hear a first hand account of the value we provide.

I just read a great article about getting beat down by clients who don't see the value... at Hey Gorgeous Blog, and this one comment really stopped me in my tracks:
"If you EVER need someone to vouch for what you say, from the “done it wrong” end, please please email me. My daughter got married 3 years ago and she and fiance planned everything beautifully, but the one thing my daughter felt she didn’t need was a day of coordinator and she was right, for everything up to the wedding. The day of though, I was the one carrying the flowers all over the city, putting together the table settings because the venue coordinator had not thought about how much time it would take and when the reception finished, the lights went out and I was cleaning up the huge room, loading up the cars with things that had to be taken. My hair and make up were ruined before the wedding because of the heat and all of the running and stress. I’d do anything for my daughter and while she was willing to change and help clean up afterwards, it was her day, and I was determined nothing would ruin it for her. And it didn’t. But as MOTB, I felt defeated. I had no quiet time with my daughter before the event, no pictures of she and I together, and to be honest, while it was her day, I wanted to be able to look back on the day and cherish it fully. I’m sad that while it was a beautiful day and the memories are great, there is a side of me that feels like I missed that MOTB moment.
When you don’t use a coordinator, you don’t realize how sorry you are until it’s too late. Someone has to do the anticipating of all the little details; it doesn’t just happen, fall into place, no matter how organized you are beforehand.
You are well worth your cost and I hope people realize that."
One last thought: why spend the money on a gorgeous venue, a catered dinner, flower arrangements, lighting, programs, menus, favors -- the list goes on and on.... if there is no one dedicated to making sure that the setup is correct, that you can enjoy your food, that the flowers go in the right place, that the lighting folks work in sync with the venue and the florist, that the programs/menus/favors and all the stuff the bride tirelessly DIY'd actually get put on the tables in the right locations and are enjoyed by the guests the way they were meant to be?

Emerald Bridal 9162 - Sample Wedding Dress | SmartBrideBoutique.com

So in today's tough economic times, many brides are asking me where can they reduce the cost. I always say first and foremost, the guest list; but we all know this already and there is really no need to beat a dead guest list. So where else can you cut and still have fabulousity. Well let's look at the wedding gown!
1. You will only wear it once- unless you have a Trash the Dress photo session. But most of us wear it once for 4-5 hours.
2. Your daughter, like you, will probably not wear her mother's wedding gown.
3. What will you do with the dress after the dream wedding has passed? Sell it? Like everyone else??

Now unless you have a budget to match the Vera Wang or Monique Lhullier's most fabulousness of new gowns, then a restructuring of your thinking might help you have it all, but not at the stress of the price.

Here are some ways:
1. First and foremost-Look for your body style and the dress shape/cut you want and think is best for you.
2. Make appointments and go to bridal boutiques/ salons and try on many gowns until you see the shape/style and cut you want. Be careful, the ladies there are making a living, so be respectful of their time. Be honest with them, if they won't help you when you are honest, then it is probably not the place you would want to get your gown from away.
3. Start shopping early! Like a year should do...Basically, if you have the ring, start shopping for the dress.
4. Consider renting- I know, I know, you want a brand new one, never been worn gown, that is all yours- but again consider the budget- and who is really going to know if it is rented or not- UNLESS you tell them. Besides, your future husband and probably your groomsmen are renting their Hugo Boss tux/suits as well and no one questions them.
5. Renting is out of the question- then purchase it from another bride. This means that this is your dress! After the wedding you can trash or sell it, or give it to charity (someone say tax deduction). But none the less it is all yours to do as you please. I know you want a brand new one, never been worn gown, that is all yours.
6. EBay stores- Heaven to Betsy, did I say that! YES I DID! We are talking about saving some buku dollars here. Those gowns made in China or Philippines are just as beautiful and detailed as you want it to be- a word of caution- get professionally measured at least 3x. And always be in contact with them. Check out their ratings and read their reviews. OH and by the way, Monique Lhullier is from the Philippines. So open your mind to the possibilities and remain diligent!
7. Someone say SAMPLE sales- yes this is a fabulous word, but some hiccups- one- once bought it is yours, stains, other women have tried on, rips, tears and all. But you can get a great bargain and the cost to clean and or repair may still be of significant savings!

William, Nicole and the jars

What a fabulous day! After spending the day with one of my fabulous brides, Missy, I left to Micheal's craft store to get an apothecary jar.
While looking for the perfect one, I noticed a very pretty young lady, fabulously petite and slender, with long blonde hair and she was slightly frustrated on not being able to find two of kind jars and glass, for, what I later found out, candy station.
She mentioned that it was very annoying not being able to find the same jars, vases and glass and when she found a set, one of them was either missing a top or cracked. I sensed her disappointment and kept looking for a perfect jar, for another wedding I was planning, but I could not help but laugh when her fiance, William, who looked like a perfect match for his beautiful bride; seeing the shopping cart full with at least seven more jars of assorted shapes and size, asked in a very surprised tone, "how many do you need?". She said, "we have seven and we need more, because we have alot of candy." His next question was a typical question from a soon to be groom."How much is this going to cost?" And there is where I laughed out loud.
I immediately apologized and stated "you are getting married, right?" They answered yes and we began having a wonderful conversation of their plans for their big day.
They described the chuppah, the Miami Beach country club venue, the sour gummies, the assorted food stations they wanted; including a flambe station and so much more. They did voice some concern that their guests may have too much or too little but ask any wedding planner, you can never have enough, when you can; and after one hour, they stated that they were feeling so much better and were completely relaxed in the planning of their wedding. You are quite welcome, it is what I do... take that stress away!

PS.Nicole, remember, ask your florist to add the third set of candelabras for that romantic feel.

A simple wedding done in 3 weeks!

A very young couple, in love, with a very small budget, called me and pleaded for assistance in finding a venue for their wedding day. According to family and friends, they have been together "forever" and now felt that getting married, well, it was the right thing to do. My heart went out to them and I agreed.
So the task was put on to me to find them a venue that would have the elements that they wanted, at a price that was affordable for their 65 guests and as stated earlier, within 3 weeks.
Off I went with the check list- first- "How much can you afford? What??? $2,500.00 for the venue and it should it encompass food, drinks, music, flowers and cake?"
With a tremble in my voice, I mustered up the words "ooookkkkayy".
I asked, "So, do you mind if the banquet hall is in Hialeah? In a shopping center?". I had to straighten up, I had to be firm- because unless they were looking to have their wedding at Aunt Betty's backyard and they had friends and family doing the rest, a banquet hall in Hialeah will probably be the best bet.
Afterall, this is not "My Fair Wedding with David Tutera", where vendors will give them everything for free for a chance of TV stardom. This was reality without TV and David Tutera.
Luckily they were completely open and understanding to the situation that they placed themselves in by wanting to get married in 3 weeks!
After several tours of several banquet halls- we found one. The food was.... very good- rice pilaf, steak and vegetables. And they offered a nice package deal. Food for 65 guest, 4 hours of bar- one hour of appetizers- cake, flowers, linen, chairs, table ware, flatware and DJ for under $20.00 per person. Not too bad.
Needless to say the wedding was beautiful and the reception... well everyone ate, drank, danced and were merry.
Congratulations guys...
